A History of Andalucía with Some Geography and a Lot of Pictures
Andalucía is one of Spain’s 17 Autonomous Communities and comprises eight provinces: Almeria, Jaén, Granada, Córdoba, Málaga, Sevilla, Cádiz and Huelva. This lecture will begin with the Tartessians, an advanced Iron Age society occupying the Guadalquivir valley. It will then explore the impact of several cultures that followed: Phoenician, Greek, Carthaginian, Roman, Visigoth, Islamic and Christian. We shall also look at the development of the present-day economy, which is not strong enough to prevent the region from being the country’s second-poorest (after Extremadura).
