Happy Summer!

I have been editor for over a year now and it is always interesting to pass on the articles that our members send to me. It can sometimes be frustrating to find the local information that I know many of you like to receive regarding the different fiesta's and activities, sometimes this is only available quite near to the date of the event!

Please, please keep sending me any news from your various groups. If anyone has an interesting story they want to share please just get in touch, I can write it for you if required, just contact me with your phone number and I will be in touch!

Many groups will be having their summer break so I am just including a little light reading in this issue of your newsletter.

See you in September.

Facebook Groups

For your Information

Facebook is not just for posting your personal status and what you eat for lunch for your nearest and dearest and the rest of the world to see!

There are many useful groups that you can join. Some are closed groups such as our U3A group page that only members can join. Others you can just click on the LIKE or FOLLOW box and you will receive regular updates from contributors.

These groups can be extremely useful for information regarding our daily life here in Spain.

Here are some that I recommend :

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain - The aim of this Group which has been founded in Spain (no connections to CAB UK ) to provide independent advice information and support for all interested expatriates and Spaniards alike. Such a support group is imperative especially for hundreds of thousands of non Spanish residents who often struggle to understand the existing and ever changing laws and rules.

N332 - This site has been set up by an English speaking police officer in Torrevieja. Lots of information regarding driving and the law in Spain.

EiA Alicante - Emergency information alerts Alicante. The group covers anything that can be regarded as important information for its members and their safety whether it be BAD WEATHER, FIRE, EARTHQUAKE, CRIME and even travel disruption and missing persons. The group also focuses on pre-warnings and forecasting of possible threatening events such as weather or anticipated heavy traffic movements.

There are also sites that specifically focus on Moraira / Teulada and are generally a sharing of information from individual members.

Moraira Eats & Drinks - All restaurants in Moraira are listed and members comment on their experience, good and bad!

Moraira - Members share general information and can ask questions from fellow members. This site has a strictly no advertising policy.

Dont forget to join our U3A closed group for support, information and personal ads.

If you would like to join a group just type the name of the group into the search box on your Facebook account page. When the page appears click on the like / follow / join box.

Please contact me if you know any other useful sites / groups.

Summer Sun - Poem by Robert Louis Stevenson

Summer Sun -

Poem by Robert Louis Stevenson

Great is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven with repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Though closer still the blinds we pull
To keep the shady parlour cool,
Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through.

The dusty attic spider-clad
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad;
And through the broken edge of tiles
Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.

Meantime his golden face around
He bares to all the garden ground,
And sheds a warm and glittering look
Among the ivy's inmost nook.

Above the hills, along the blue,
Round the bright air with footing true,
To please the child, to paint the rose,
The gardener of the World, he goes.

Recipe: Coca Cola BBQ ideas,

Recipe: Coca Cola BBQ ideas,

By Dot Garrett.

I have often used cola to marinade meat for the bbq, especially good with tenderising pork!

BBQ Sauce

• 1 cup tomato ketchup

• ¼ cup Worcestershire Sauce

• 1 teaspoon crushed garlic

• 1 cup Coca-Cola

• ¼ cup brown sugar, loose

• ½ teaspoon hot sauce

• Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan over medium to low heat.

• Allow to boil for about 5 to 10 minutes until reduced and thickened.

• Remove from heat and pour into cleaned jars and store in the refrigerator for several months or use immediately.

Pulled Pork

• 400ml Coca Cola (NOT diet)

• 1kg pork loin (or equivalent leg or shoulder join)

• 300ml barbecue marinade

• Sesame buns, coleslaw and salad, to serve

• Bring the pork to room temperature. Place the pork and Coke in the slowcooker.

• Set to low and cook for 5 hours. Do not be tempted to remove the lid as this will cause the temperature to drop.

• Take off the lid. Remove onto a plate. 'Pull' the join using two forks. It will form shredded pork very easily.

• Return the pork to the slowcooker. Pour over the barbecue marinade and cook on high for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

• Serve on burger buns with coleslaw and salad.

Coke Butt Chicken

1 Whole Chicken

Chicken rub spices

1 can coke

•  You need a standard kettle-style barbecue with a lid and a thermometer. Make sure it’s tall enough to hold the upright chicken. The steam from the coke cooks the inside of the bird, so the meat ends up lovely and juicy.

• Preheat your barbecue.

• Cover the chicken in your rub, working in with your hands.

• Open can of coke, have a couple of good swigs so your can is just about half full, then lower your chicken’s cavity on to the top of the can so it looks as though the chicken is sitting on the can. A bit undignified, I know, but trust me – it’s going to be delicious.

• If you’re using a charcoal barbecue, try to strategically move a small amount of coals to the sides rather than directly underneath the chicken, so the heat radiates around it and cooks it from all angles rather than grills it.

• Carefully sit the chicken on the bars of your barbecue and close the lid. Cook for around 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes or until it’s golden and delicious and the meat pulls away from the bone and the juices run clear. If this isn’t the case (all barbecues are slightly different) just cook for a bit longer.

• Once done, remove the can and loosely cover your chicken with foil and a tea towel while you get some grilled veg, salad or warm breads together – but trust me, it tastes so good you won’t need much else.

Chicken Rub Spice

• 2 tablespoons mild chilli powder

• 1 teaspoon black pepper

• 2 teaspoons garlic powder

• 2 teaspoons onion powder

• 1 tablespoon brown sugar

• 1 tablespoon dried thyme

• 1⁄2 teaspoon ground allspice

• 1 tablespoon coriander powder

• 2 dried bay leaves crushed

Mix all ingredients together and store in zip lock bag. Create and personalize your own spice blends. Try other ingredients such as cocoa powder, cayenne pepper, jerk seasonings, mustard powder, orange zest.... the list goes on.

16/08/14 - TM Lions Summer Concert - Black Glitter

TM Lions Summer Concert -

Black Glitter

14th AUGUST 2016 AT 20:00
Teulada Moraira Lions´ Club, in conjunction with our sponsors for this event, Hamiltons of London, are delighted to present, as the third of our Free* 2016 Summer Concerts in Moraira, BLACK GLITTER, the fantastic, extremely popular, local rock, blues & soul band formed by ace drummer Geoff Britton who has, during his long and successful career, featured with top bands such as East of Eden, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, Rough Diamond and, of course, Paul McCartney’s Wings, when Geoff made the drummer's seat his own and recorded many successful albums with the great man himself- including the world wide super hit, 'Venus and Mars.'

The band is fronted by lead singer, Kelly Lee Cottom, whose repertoire includes great hits from the worlds of soul, the blues and good old rock ‘n roll. The sound which these guys produce is not merely professional – it can, at it’s best, give you goose-bumps but, at the same time, Kelly Lee is always quick to establish a rapport with the audience and involve you in the performance as Black Glitter belt out hit after hit to get those feet a-dancin’.

Come along and see what we mean!

*Admission to all our Summer Concerts on the Seafront in Moraira is free but Teulada-Moraira Lions´ Club Members will be there in our distinctive yellow tops to raise funds for our charitable projects by “rattling buckets” and asking for donations from the audience - so do please GIVE GENEROUSLY
