Film Title: My Cousin Rachel
Philip, an orphan, is taken in and brought up by his cousin Ambrose, a Devon landowner he loves like a father. Later in life Ambrose is advised by his physician to move to a warmer climate and leaves for Tuscany. There he meets and marries Rachel, a half-Italian cousin of his. After an idyllic start, the marriage begins to deteriorate. Shortly before his death, Ambrose manages to contact Philip, claiming his wife is slowly killing him.
Anxious to discover the truth, Philip travels to Florence, but only to find that Rachel has gone away. Instead he meets Rainaldi, her friend and lawyer, who does not inspire him with confidence. He returns to his estate, persuaded that Rachel is evil and is the direct cause of Ambrose’s death. But some time later, Rachel announces that she is coming to visit him. Determined to welcome her coolly, he is stunned to discover a woman not only beautiful but elegant, intelligent and sensitive. Instead of strangling her, like he vowed he would, he finds himself falling dangerously in love.
