But when an accident leaves her seriously injured, she finds her world in disarray, unable to dance and unable to provide financial support. Her uncle Vanya (Matthias Schoenaerts) has a solution: if she helps him out with a small job, then he can help her back. But things don’t go quite as she imagined, and she finds herself facing a stark choice: destitution or training as a ‘sparrow’, usually young ex-military trainees who are taught to use their skills of seduction to get what they want from the enemy. Her first mission is to seduce and gather information from an American CIA agent (Joel Edgerton), who handles the CIA’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. But can she be trusted?

WARNING! Although the film is rated 15, it contains some violence, sex and nudity. The scenes are not gratuitous, are relatively brief and not overly graphic, but some may find them offensive.
