Film Title: Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri
Based on true events, THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI is a powerful drama from Martin McDonagh, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture and nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. The lead actress, Frances McDormand, and Sam Rockwell as supporting actor both won Golden Globe Awards and Oscars for their roles in the film.
McDormand plays Mildred Hayes, a hard-nosed mother seeking justice for her murdered daughter. With no arrests after seven months, Mildred makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town’s revered chief of police (played by Woody Harrelson), to goad him into action. But the law – and especially Willoughby’s hot-headed deputy, Dixon (played by Rockwell) – don’t take kindly to the provocation. And the townsfolk are on their side. But Mildred doesn’t care about ruffling a few feathers; quite the opposite, she’s prepared to pluck the whole bird.
WARNING! Although the film is rated 15, there is considerable bad language, particularly in the first half of the film. In my opinion it’s necessary to portray the characters, but if you are likely to be offended by swearing, this is probably not the film for you.
