From the Town Hall – Control of pigeons

Ajuntament de Teulada

NOTIFICATION FROM THE TOWN HALL
SUBJECT: Control of pigeons in downtown Moraira.

Nieves Rodriguez Vicente, Mayoress of Teulada,
ANNOUNCES:
Due to the complaints the Town Hall receives regarding the trouble pigeons cause in downtown Moraira, a campaign will be launched to control the animals. The overpopulation of pigeons is a result of excess food and water as well as the availability of too many places where they can nest. Furthermore, there are no longer enough natural enemies. They will be captured alive on certain roof terraces using proper traps
It is vital that the citizens collaborate in full in order to get rid of the factors favouring the excessive reproduction rate of the pigeons and therefore we recommend:
1) DONT FEED AND DON’T GIVE ANY WATER TO THE PIGEONS, neither directly, in public places or private areas, nor indirectly, by depositing leftovers or water on terraces, balconies, roof terraces or in public places (including parks). By doing so you will contribute to not support their growth and reproduction rate. The pigeons find enough food around urban areas and don’t need any additional nutrition. Furthermore, excessive food and water can cause more plagues such as rats, cockroaches, sea gulls etc.
2) CONTROL AND MAINTAIN YOUR RESIDENCE IN FAIR CONDITION in order to avoid nesting.
3) SPREAD THE INFORMATION to friends and other citizens.
This notification is based on the competence the Town Hall is given by item 1244.g), statute 7/1985 of April 2, basic local regulation, supported by statute 53/2003 of December 16, regarding measures to modernize the local government.
Any doubts of questions regarding the above, please contact the “Concejalia de Medio Ambiente” (Environment Department) of the Town Hall
