Minutes of the Monthly Meeting held on 5th June 2017
at the Salon G.L., Teulada at 10.30

It is confirmed that the Deputy President and Secretary attended this General Meeting as voted in at the Meeting on 6th March 2017.
David Haxon welcomed everybody to the meeting, especially the 32 new members. David confirmed the security checks had been done and reminded everybody of the emergency procedures in the event of evacuation of the building. David asked for all mobile phones to be switched off.
Steve Higham read the synopsis of the minutes of the Meeting on 1st May 2017. The full minutes had been posted on the website and were proposed by Mary Snell and seconded by Marcella Potter.

Presidents Address:

David explained that John Hopwood, the President was absent due to a family wedding in England. David went on to talk briefly about the tragic events at Manchester and yesterday in London adding, “and I speak on behalf of all U3A members, our thoughts were with, not only the victims but also their families”. David said how lucky we all were to live in such a wonderful location as well as having a music night at the Castle in Moraira the previous evening. David and Eileen, as many others at the event, experienced the worst flash flood for many years and hoped the electrical equipment on the stage was not ruined.
David thanked the Group Leaders for all the work they do and he also thanked all U3A Members that had responded to the request for help on the Social Committee. All will be contacted in due course.

Reports:

Treasurer Carin advised the members that as at 5th June 2017 a balance was showing of €17.576,27.Income of €3.100,00 included €2.800,00 from the selling of 112 Summer Party tickets and with expenses of €697.40,00, the balance now standing was €19.978,87. Carin said the large balance was due to the cost of the Party still to be paid to El Canor the venue for the Party. The full report will be posted on the website.
Travel Due to the day trip to Sagunto being so popular, Carol was able to advise that there was to be a second trip on Thursday the 19th October. The same itinerary as 5th October, with a cost of € 45 per person. On the 10th October there is a day trip to Bioparc in Valencia where animals are kept separate by natural barriers. A guide is included. Free time follows, for lunch at any of the Restaurants and visit to parts of the park of your choice before leaving for Moraira. The cost is €35 per person for the trip. Carol went on to say a Sunday lunch on 15th October to Viva Espana has been arranged at a cost of €40 per person, which includes a three course lunch, horse riding display and Flamenco dancing. All details are on the website and more day and overnight trips will be advised before the next July Meeting.
Group Coordinator Prue gave thanks to John and Teri Dimsdale, the Healthy Walking Group Leader, who has now left for the Uk. Brian Cummins will be taking over as Group Leader. Fine Art Printmaking will start in September. John Ross has taken over the Golf Group and the second Solo Group enjoyed an evening at Casa Lili in Moraira. Prue then announced that Lynn Clark was stepping down as Deputy Group Coordinator, in order to concentrate on her Travel Group position. Any Member wishing to be considered for the post, please contact Prue.
Cultural Arts Events With regret David advised that Hugh was unwell and undergoing a long operation, so was unable to give the report. Eileen was also unavailable as her husband was in Hospital. The report was kindly given by Hilary Wass. Hilary explained that The Javea Players presentation and the Proms night, were both fully booked. The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir are performing in Benidoleig later in the month and on 28th June Othello is performed, but where the tickets can be obtained is unknown. If anyone has this information, would they kindly contact Beverly Stewart. Full details of all events can be found on the U3A website.
Members/Committee Liaison Prue had nothing to report.

Any Other Business

David advised that 240 tickets had been sold for the Summer Party and the Benidorm Palace tickets would shortly be on sale.
Eileen Haxon introduced the speaker, Peter Douglas who would be speaking on dental, and facial reconstructions. ”faces, Jaws and how well do you know yours”. After a very informative and graphic talk, Peter answered several questions by the Members. A round of applause from the Members in appreciation and David presented Peter with a gift as thanks.
The raffle was draw by Peter, the winning ticket number was 930 and held by Susan Hadaway who received a €50 voucher to Pepe la Sal.
