Friday, May 21, 3.00 pm saw Mike and I arriving at Font Santa to join in an 'English style' fête.
The weather (finally) was lovely and warm and it was nice to see people in short sleeves enjoying their vitamin D! |
| We wandered round the various stalls, having 'a go' at throwing bean bags and trying to please Sue Popkin by winning her booby prizes ..... | ![]() |

..... failing miserably at trying to match up the committee 'photos with those taken when they were very young ..... |
| ..... unable to identify a single 'photo which Don Roberts had taken at crazy angles ..... and having fun doing the quiz - we got some of that right, thanks to our partner Carol who figured out the anagram CARTHORSE! I won't say what the answer is in case anyone reading this little report wants to try and solve it ..... |

I was, however, a winner with the cake stand - I got a delicious zucchini cake and a yummy rye and walnut bread - thanks to those ladies who made them - and to everyone else who took the time to make homemade goodies - that felt really English!
I now have plenty of new books to read, thanks to the book stall - that was another really good idea. |

We both thought there was a nice atmosphere, with people wandering around visiting friends and others trying the various games.
Music was provided by the inimitable Richard - several of us managed a little jiving and twisting! |

Later on, a buffet meal was served - nicely presented by Los Leones - pretty good albóndigas!
It turned out that we had the opportunity to do some PR work for the community! There were several Spanish families with their children who were also enjoying time at the park. There was food left over, so we invited them to join us - and some of the mums lost no time coming over, whilst leaving the dads to watch the children. Nice time out for them! |

At the end of the day there was a raffle, and it looked to me like people were pleased with what they had won.
And lastly, there was a U3A gift of two wheelchairs which were presented to Sylvia Tattnel for the Ayuntamiento for use on their Community Vehicle. |

I know a lot of work went into organising this event and I thought it was a pity that more U3A members didn't support the programme, but those of us who did had a lovely afternoon. So I would like to give my personal thanks to those members of the committee and other volunteers who worked hard to make it such a success.
Over 700 euros was raised for the charity HELP. |
