in enclosed public spaces is enforced

This is not a Moraira-Teulada U3A group, and nor is the U3A officially associated with this enterprise.
I am making this announcement in the same way as I have done for other non-U3A activities and events which may be of interest to some of our members.

Recently, I have encountered five cafés/bars in which I have seen someone smoking. A friend of mine has also commented that she also has been very angry and shocked to have witnessed smoking being permitted in similar circumstances.

I believe that, if this is allowed to continue unchallenged, we run the risk that such a casual attitude to the smoking ban will become more widespread. Since the law was introduced, there have been many hundreds of stiff fines imposed on offenders.

The action which I am proposing is that those of us who feel very strongly about this get together to discuss what we can do about it locally. For example, our first course of action may be merely to remind the proprietor of the establishment (and/or the people

who are committing the offence) of the law and request that they comply. If that fails, or we find them ignoring the law again in the future, we can issue a denuncia and they will be fined. There may well be other possible actions which we might want to discuss.

If enough of us take consistent action, the owners of bars and cafés will soon learn that they must enforce the law. Those of us prepared to take action will certainly feel more comfortable doing so if we meet from time to time to discuss what we have done, offer each advice on the basis of our experience, and to generally offer each other support.
