“Painting with Light” by David Winpenny.
This is our opportunity to explore the value of light, understand the marvellous technical improvements and techniques, styles and processes of stained and coloured glass through the ages. We will begin with the beginning of basic coloured glass in the early centuries, introducing some of the main manufacturers and designers of the 18th Century, the Gothic revival of the 19th, and their latest successors in the art today who are filling in the windows of the secular and sacred buildings of Europe.
David Winpenny is a Yorkshireman born & bred. He lives in the North Yorkshire City of Ripon, is the Chairman of the Ripon Civic Society, a member of the Countryside Commission and has walked through most of Yorkshire.
As a freelance author and lecturer his subjects include Architectural and Gardening History, Country Houses and for some reason the first ascent of the Matterhorn !
He is a Life Member of the National Trust, has taken part in BBC’s Brain of Britain and was a finalist in the Mastermind contest in the last century. David is also a regular contributor to the BBC Countryfile Magazine, English Heritage and has a weekly column in his local newspaper.
Coffee is available prior to the meeting, and all are invited to partake in a glass of wine or soft drink at its conclusion to socialise.
