Ducal Palace Gandia & Xativa Castle
Wednesday 11th April 2018
Led by Sue Popkin & Carol Mantle
The cost of this trip will include the coach, guided tour and entrance to the Ducal Palace and Lunch at Viva Espana. Also included in the cost is the Tourist Train to Xativa Castle and the entrance cost.
We take a guided tour of this newly restored palace, which was the Palace of the Borgia Family. It dates back to the beginning of the 15th Century and has been beautifully restored.
Next, we have lunch at “Viva Espana” near Oliva, including half a bottle of wine per person. On a fine day we will then visit Xativa via the local tourist train, which take us around the old town and to the Castle. The train will also return us to the Bus making this Trip easier for those members who are less able to walk.
Xativa Castle with its thirty towers and four fortified gateways, is rated as one of the loveliest in the Valencian Community.
The town below the glowering castle walls is equally steeped in history. It was the birth place of two Popes of the Borgia clan.
The streets themselves are like a splendid public gallery requiring no entrance fee. Mounted high on almost every wall of the old town, family names linger on in tiled plaques celebrating the lives of the saints.
Cost the trip is 40€ per person
