DAY TRIP TO NOVELDA
24th April 2019
Led by Lynn Clark, Sue Popkin & kindly assisted by Gail Stewart
We will be visiting the interesting town of Novelda that sits inland from Alicante about 1 hr 45 minutes from Moraira. It is a major center for marble, silica and clay as well as being a well-known wine area. We will be having an English speaking guide for the whole day.
We will be starting the tour at the Museum of Modernism. It is a well preserved art nouveau house designed by Pedro Cerdan Martinez with original artefacts from that era. The group will then have time to take coffee in the nearby casino, which was once men only. There are still card rooms and well preserved décor from years past. The cafe and bar is a great place for a coffee break.
Novelda is most famous for the Sanctuaira Santa Magdealena, designed and built by a disciple of Antonio Gaudi. The sanctuary houses the only organ made entirely of marble, still being created as funds accrue. There will be an opportunity to hear the organ.
Lunch will be in a restaurant adjacent to the sanctuary, the price of which is included. There will then be ample opportunity to take in the views and climb the tower if you wish.
COST €30 per person
Lunch is included in the cost of the trip.
