Synopsis of the minutes from 6th September 2021.

Tony Old gave a synopsis of the minutes from our last general meeting held on the 6th September 2021.

  • Approval of the Minutes of 6th September 2021

Approval of these minutes was proposed by Christine Reed and seconded by Peter Lobb.  These minutes were approved by those present.

  • Presidents Address

The President welcomed everyone to the meeting and stated how nice it was to be back in our old venue.  We have had 107 new members join this year bringing the total number of members to date at 1968.  The offer of waiving joining fees has no doubt encouraged new members.  Prue went on to congratulate everyone involved in the organisation and execution of the Hog Roast last month, with over 200 attendees, it was the most successful event of its type so far.  She went on to highlight the need for current vacancies on the committee to be filled, otherwise it may be very difficult to sustain the group next year.

The winner of the Strap Line competition was Mark Mentha with “Youth Club for Grown Ups”

  • Treasurers Report

Steve Higham once again gave a comprehensive report on the association finances which are healthy and in good order.  These details can be found on our website.

  • Groups and Travel

Prue stated that most groups are starting up again with many groups looking to recruit new members.  John Hopwood is the new leader for the Art and History group assisted by Brian Nicholls, the film group is starting up again this month and a new travel group leader is being actively recruited.   Sue McNae gave a short presentation on her Yoga group which is hoping to attract new members and Eileen Haxon gave a brief report on the planned trip to La Zenia Boulevard which she and David are planning.  Prue went on to thank all the group leaders for their efforts throughout the pandemic.

  • Social Report

Tony Old reported that our first social event since lockdown took place on the 16th of September in the form of a Hog Roast at Font Santa, Teulada.  This was very well attended with over 200 members taking part, this was deemed to be a great success which resulted in approximately 900 euros being donated to MABS.  He formally thanked the organisers of the event particularly Pat Clarke, Tony Old and Peter and Pauline Griffiths.

A Christmas dinner has been organised on 2 evenings at Satari’s restaurant in Moraira, which will feature a fabulous Christmas menu and entertainment by Duo Intermezzo.  The dates for these are the 11th and 17th December, however, the first date is already fully subscribed (in 24 hours) and the 2nd date is 3/4 sold to date.  Plans are being drawn up for a Spring Dinner Dance, details to be advised.

Eileen Haxon informed us that the Quiz Night that is planned for the 26th October at the Inn on the Green is fully subscribed.

  • Membership Liaison

Steve Higham stated that he had received a complaint from a member with reference to the EGM held earlier in the year.  This was passed to the committee respecting the complainant’s anonymity. The President responded to this complaint through the membership liaison officer who reported that he had received no further communications on the matter.
