Report on presentation about Traffic Laws at La Senieta – Mon 27 Oct

Report by Dennis Ainscough

Despite everyone believing the talk would address changes to motoring law in 2026, the speaker mostly focused on young electric scooter riders, their road responsibilities, and the new laws for scooter riders, cyclists, and motorcyclists, set to take effect next year.

Schoolchildren and young people organisations are the speaker’s normal audience.

Regarding motorists, we were told that from the beginning of 2026 Emergency Beacons would be mandatory. It is essential that beacons purchased must have an internet connection. Only beacons with internet connectivity would be legal. The post office in Benitatchell sells them and you can buy online or in major stores. Look for devices marked “Homologada DGT 3.0”.

The speaker emphasized the increased number of speed cameras that will be placed along Spain’s roads next year. Mark spent time making sure his audience understood their responsibility of care towards scooter riders and cyclists. When overtaking them on a road with two lanes on either side, the car driver should move out into the second lane to overtake. If there is a single white line in the middle of the road, and providing there is no oncoming traffic, the car driver can cross the white line.
