Poetry for the Third Age: A Guided Writing Circle

Later life offers a rich opportunity to explore imagination, reflect on experience, and share stories through poetic expression. This facilitated poetry circle provides U3A members with a supportive space to write, discuss, and develop their craft, whether they are a beginner or an experienced writer.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their work in public poetry readings when they feel ready, celebrating their creativity and growth with the wider community.

What to Expect

  • Explore writing and reading poetry inspired by shared themes (e.g., memory, nature, seasons, identity, humor)
  • Participate in guided writing exercises to spark creativity
  • Share and discuss in-session writing with supportive, constructive feedback
  • Workshop pre-written drafts with guidance on imagery, metaphor, form, voice, and rhythm

Format

  • Monthly gatherings (2.5 – 3 hours)
  • Intimate small group (maximum 8 participants) to encourage thoughtful discussion and genuine connection
  • Suitable for all U3A members; no prior poetry experience required

Setting

Meetings take place in a private home in beautiful Xaló, Alicante, offering a calm, inspiring environment for writing, conversation, and reflection.
