This film is based on true events that took place in February 1977 in Indianapolis.
Tony Kiritsis believed that Meridian Mortgage Co. had deliberately sabotaged his property
development deals and forced him into foreclosure. So he went to the office and took the president,
Richard Hall, hostage. He looped a heavy “dead man’s wire” noose around Hall’s neck and connected it
to the trigger of a sawn-off 12-gauge shotgun. If Hall were to make a sudden movement or if police
shot Kiritsis, the gun would fire and kill Hall instantly.
