Dining Out Group meet at Restaurante La Cumbre

Forty six members of the Dining Out Group met at Restaurante La Cumbre on 3rd September for their first event after the summer break, which was hosted by John and Meri Snell.

The poolside terrace overlooking the sea was the ideal place to enjoy a welcome class of cava in the warm evening sunshine before moving inside for the meal.

Eloy and Celia Martinez, the restaurateurs, had set the six tables out delightfully, and to start, the diners shared five different tapas. The first was a beetroot and carrot tartar with mackerel, and a raspberry vinaigrette. This was followed by a tomato waffle with a black olive and anchovy topping, rice balls with vegetables and cheese, polenta with a delicious homemade pesto and, finally, chicken nuggets with an avocado mayonnaise. Those who have been to La Cumbre on previous occasions will know that a selection of shared tapas is often the first course; these were all delicious, and very well received.

After a lemon sorbet palate cleaner, came the main courses. For those who preferred fish, there was a choice of Tuna a la plancha or John Dory with a lemon sauce. For the meat eaters there was a choice of chicken breast stuffed with dried tomato, mushroom and onion with a mushroom sauce, pork with a honey and mustard sauce or roast lamb. For those choosing a vegetarian option there was homemade gnocchi pasta. All came with roasted potatoes or basmati rice, peppers and tomato. The diners were particularly complimentary about the chicken and the lamb.

For desserts, a choice was of a Strawberry “Soup” with pistachio ice cream, an orange and ginger flan, or a chocolate cake. All the desserts were highly praised; the flavours in the light flan combined particularly well.

The meal came with half a bottle of wine, water and a coffee to round off the meal.

Eloy, Celia and their staff looked after the group very well throughout the evening.

All in all it was a very pleasant and convivial evening, in a well established restaurant with excellent sea views. There were several new members to the group who said they very much enjoyed the atmosphere and meeting new people.
