SUMMARY:The Art and Poetry of the First World War
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Robert Sedgley \n\n\n\nMany of these works tell of the horrors and traumas of war and the atrocities that humans in extreme circumstances can inflict on one another. The poems and paintings\, based on the personal experiences of their creators\, may be distressful to encounter\, but in their brutal honesty they are magnificent and tragic memorials\, and ultimately a testament to survival\, to the human spirit and a shared humanity. They are\, in addition to being among the highest works of art of the early twentieth century\, reports & case-histories of the period.  \n\n\n\nEach of these works stands as witness\, in the words of one poet “Lest we forget”.
