The rest of the day is on your own to explore this ancient capital of China. \n\n\n\nDay 6 (B\, L) \n\n\n\nXian \n\n\n\nAfter breakfast\, drive about 40 km to discover one of the greatest man-made wonders in the world – the Terracotta Warriors and Horses\, built by the first emperor of China Qin Shihuang to protect him in his afterlife. Over 8\,000 life-size warriors\, horses and chariots\, buried in 3 pits for more than 2\,000 years until uncovered by a local farmer in 1974\, form an ancient military army with complete battle units of infantry\, cavalry\, etc. Standing in front of these figures\, one can’t help being amazed not only by the ambition of Emperor Qin Shihuang but also by the fabulous artistic skills of ancient Chinese artisans. \n\n\n\nAfter lunch\, return to Xian to visit Da Cien Temple\, a famous Buddhist sutra translation site during the Tang Dynasty. Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is the most famous building in the temple. The pagoda\, rising to a height of 64.5 meters\, was built by the famous Buddhist master Xuanzang to preserve classic scriptures he bought back from India during the early Tang Dynasty. Xuanzang was the prototype character for Tang Seng in the famous Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. (Note: It costs an extra 5€ if you want to climb up the Big Wild Goose Pagoda). \n\n\n\nDay 7 (B\, L) \n\n\n\nXian \n\n\n\nAfter breakfast\, start today’s tour with an educational visit to the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Xi’an Museum to learn a lot about the history and culture about the ancient city of Xi’an. They are together located in a clean and beautiful park. The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is rather smaller and 55 years younger than its “sister” – the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. Built during 707 to 709 AD\, the pagoda is 43.4 meters tall with 13 tiers (originally 15 tiers)\, looking like a very tall rectangular pyramid. An interesting fact about the Small Wild Goose Pagoda is that the pagoda has survived nearly 70 earthquakes\, and now still standing firm and sturdy. You can walk around to appreciate the beautiful design and take photos of the pagoda. \n\n\n\nThen you will go to visit Xi’an Museum which is only several minutes’ walking from the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. This museum has more than 130\,000 pieces of jade relics\, seals\, paintings\, porcelains\, Buddhist statues\, stone carvings and many other precious relics. Later\, go to spend a leisure time on the Ancient City Wall\, the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China. Just like the merchants and envoys on the Silk Road thousands of years ago\, you will enter the interior of the city walls through the Hanguang Gate. \n\n\n\nThere you will visit a mini museum to see the real Tang Dynasty city wall ruins from over 1400 years ago\, including gateways\, cross-sections of the wall\, and the remains of water channels. After the museum visit\, get up to the city wall to enjoy a leisure stroll and pleasant panoramic views of modern Xian. Leave the City Wall\, then go to wander leisurely around the bustling and lively Muslim Quarter\, a place where you can try different local snacks and explore Muslim culture. The rest of today is free. You will stay one more night in Xian. And the dinner not included \n\n\n\nDay 8 (B\, D) \n\n\n\nXian – Chengdu \n\n\n\nAfter the buffet breakfast\, you will get escorted to catch your train to Chengdu (4 hours). You can enjoy some snacks on the train. You will have a dinner when you arrive in Chengdu. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 9 (B\, L\, D) \n\n\n\nChengdu \n\n\n\nThis morning you will make a stirring visit to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding which is not only the most important panda scientific research center\, but also dwelling home to more than 100 Giant Pandas. Walk at leisure through the bamboo framed paths\, and closely observe giant pandas of different ages eating bamboos\, playing with each other\, tumbling\, climbing trees\, etc. Don’t miss the chance to visit the most adorable panda cubs in the panda kindergartens. If you are lucky\, you may be able to see the precious panda babies in the nursery rooms. \n\n\n\nThere is also a very informative Panda Museum where you can learn more scientific facts about Giant Pandas. Leaving the panda center\, you will be taken to a hidden spiritual Buddhist temple in the bustling downtown of Chengdu – Wenshu Temple. Turn left at the main road towards Benitachell\, after a few meters cross the road opposite a wide concrete path. Walk diagonally across the clearing and you will see the start of a single path through the woods. The direction of the path should be perpendicular to the last tarmac road you were on.\n\n\n\nAt the end of the wood\, bear right and the narrow path drops (2-3 meters) down a dirt slope to a lower terrace (care needed at this point). At the bottom of the slope take the second turning opposite a very small clearing on the right. Walk through a narrow un-kept terrace and overgrown path. At the end of the terrace the path curves left into a well kept vineyard.\n\n\n\nWalk carefully along the left hand edge of the vineyard\, at the far end a dirt track slopes down into a small almond tree area. After leaving the almond trees take the elevated track to the left.\n\n\n\nFollow this double track until you reach a small multi -junction area\, take the single track to the right (sharp bend).\n\n\n\nContinue on this track\, pass the ruined finca and views of the Montgo on your right. Ignore the single track on your left and continue until you reach a short steep slope down (3-4 meters). At the bottom of the slope ignore the track to the right and continue on until you reach a T junction\, turn left here. Walk up a slight incline passing a number of houses on the right. Keep straight on\, ignoring a gravel path to the left and a tarmac road to your right\, until you reach a multi-junction with a tarmac surface.\n\n\n\nAt this junction you will see a road to the right (Cami Tarradolas) and another straight ahead (Cami de Tossal Gros). Ignore these roads and turn left and descend down Cami de Tarraula passing a small stable on the left hand corner.\n\n\n\nContinue down the hill\, pass a large stable on your right. The tarmac road takes you through a number of bends with houses on both sides of the road. After passing a tarmac road (Calle Elsa Morante) on your left you reach a T-junction and the Cami Vell Teulada road.\n\n\n\nImmediately opposite the road that you are on is a single lane dirt track. Cross the Cami Vell Teulada road and take the single lane track. Walk pass the villa on your left \, join the double track\, and head towards the main Javea – to – Benitachell road (be very careful when crossing this busy road). Having crossed the road\, turn left and then right after a few meters\, your vehicle should be ahead.\n\n\n\n\nInterested ? Add this event to your calendar using the button below

At the edge of the urbanisation the road dips slightly and bends to the right and then left. Continue up the slight incline and after approximately 100 meters from the apex of the left hand bend you will reach an opening into the woods on your right hand side (a small tree is marked with yellow on the right of the track).\n\n\n\n\n\nGo down the slight embankment andfollow this single track through the wooded area until you reach a T junction with a villa in front of you. Turn left onto the double stony track and walk up the slight incline until you reach a single track on your right after approximately 100 meters. Just after the bend and to the right you will have great view of Benitachell church and village (providing the weather is good).\n\n\n\nJust ahead and on the edge of the tree line turn right down a small embankment onto a lower terrace and then onto a rocky path down the hill. Continue down this rocky path until you reach a tarmac road with views of Javea golf course to the left.\n\n\n\nTurn right at the tarmac road and follow this road past the vineyards on your left until you reach the end of the tarmac road and the beginning of a wide track with houses on your left and right. Travel between the houses up this slight incline until you reach the wooded area. At this point take the single track in front of you and into the woods.\n\n\n\nContinue up this stony track until you reach a T junction. At this junction take the double track to the left and follow this path until you reach a T junction and tarmac road\, just past the high garden wall of a villa on your left.\n\n\n\nAt the T junction turn left onto carrer Ciceron and continue down this road until you reach a multi junction. Carrer Tito Livio is directly ahead and there is a small road sharp right\, ignore both of these roads and take the middle road that is sign posted to Les Fonts.\n\n\n\nContinue along this unmarked roadtowards Les Fonts ignoring all roads and tracks to the left and right. Just after the “S” bend turn right at the T- junction with Camino de Liuca (no signpost visible at this point). SUMMARY:From the Costa Blanca coast to the French Camargue offered by U3A Javea
DESCRIPTION:12 days €1\,918 per person \n\n\n\nThe Spanish Culture & Cuisine Group of U3A Javea has a few places available on this trip that are being made available to members of U3A Moraira-Teulada. \n\n\n\nFrom the Costa Blanca Coast to the Camargue in France \n\n\n\nWednesday 20th – Sunday 31st May 2026 \n\n\n\nThis 12-day tour includes visits to various cultural and historical sites in Spain and France. We will learn about the history of tiger nut cultivation\, its growing methods\, and the process of making artisanal horchata\, followed by a tasting; visit the prestigious Caves Byrrh\, to see how the vermouth aperitif is produced; and the Simón Coll factory\, tasting chocolate with cava! There will be free time in Béziers\, one of the oldest cities in France\, where the Canal du Midi passes over the river Orb; also to explore Sète\, one of the most beautiful fishing and trade ports in the Mediterranean\, which is surrounded by the sea\, canals and Thau Lake and nicknamed the “Venice of the Languedoc”; and Arles\, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our 3-night stay in the port of Sainte Marie la Mer coincides with the Gitan Pilgrimage\, which turns this small sleepy seaside town into a noisy carnival with Gypsy music and dancing! A unique experience not found anywhere else. Perhaps the highlight of the tour may be the full day excursion to the Parc Naturel Regional de Camargue\, including a boat trip and train ride to enable us to see the beautiful white horses\, flamingoes\, and bulls in their natural surroundings. Many other sights and visits are included during the tour. \n\n\n\nFor a full details and itinerary of this trip please see \n\n\n\nhttps://u3ajavea.com/info/events/new-scc-tour-from-the-costa-blanca-coast-to-the-camargue-in-france/

SUMMARY:Keeping Mum
DESCRIPTION:5:30pm doors open\, for 6:00pm start (ends 7:45pm) \n\n\n\nU3A Membership Card for entrance (free) – NO booking required \n\n\n\nWalter Goodfellow (Rowan Atkinson)\, the vicar for the small English country parish of Little Wallop\, is so preoccupied with writing the perfect sermon that he has let his marriage to Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) go stale\, but fails to realise that his wife is having an affair with her golf instructor Lance (Patrick Swayze). Indeed\, he is so detached from his family that his seventeen-year-old daughter Holly’s (Tamsin Egerton) succession of unsuitable boyfriends also goes unnoticed as does his son Petey’s (Toby Parkes) fear of going to school\, owing to being bullied. Enter Grace Hawkins (Dame Maggie Smith)\, the discreet new housekeeper\, a sweet grey-haired old lady who has her own way of keeping house – and solving problems! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInterested ? Also one long gentle incline later in walk.Directions to Meeting PointFrom Moraira: Drive through Benitachell towards Javea. Pass the football field on the right and take the first road to the right CV-747 towards Javea arenal. Pass the roundabout\, go straight and follow the road until it bends to the right. At this point turn left into Lago Como and park near the mail boxes. From Jávea: At Barclays Bank\, take the road towards Benitachell up the hill. 600 metres after passing the Inn on the Green bowls club\, the road bends left at the old El Campo restaurant. There are two roads on the right hand side as the road bends left. Take the second of these two roads; do not take the road immediately alongside the restaurant. Parking near the mailboxes.\n\n\n\nWalk Description\n\n\n\n\n Walk up the hill of Calle del Lago Como following it round to the left and right. Do NOT take the next turning on the left (Lago Como) but continue straight on up the hill into Lago Cinebra.\n\n\n\nFollow it around to the right and then take the first turning on the left\, Calle Lago Vanern.\n\n\n\n The road wiggles as it joins Lago Tanganyka\, keep going straight on. At the T-junction with Cami de Sabatera\, turn left\, and\, at the crossroads\, turn right to stay on Cami de Sabatera.\n\n\n\nCami de Sabatera can be busy at times\, so beware. After a short distance (approx 130m)\, just before some trees\, there is a dirt path on the left going across some fields towards a wooded area. [If you reach a chain entrance on Sabatera then you have gone about 80m too far].\n\n\n\nWalk along this straight dirt path\, it bends slightly to the right and then enters the trees. Keep going straight until you reach a ruined finca. Turn left at the finca and follow the path through the grass. The path can be difficult to see in the grass\, but it goes almost in a straight line.\n\n\n\nThe path then curves slightly left as it rises and joins a cart track at another ruined finca (on your right). The cart track T-junctions with a rough whitish road where you should turn right into Lago Aral. Notice the magnificent view of Montgó on your right.\n\n\n\nWhen the track approaches some stables\, turn left and curve right around the stables (still on Lago Aral). [There are alternative routes marked on the map.] Ignore the turning (Lago Michigan) to the left. Continue along Lago Aral until the track goes into a wooded “tunnel”.\n\n\n\nAt the other end of the “tunnel”\, take the track on the right. This is Calle Lago Baljas (often marked on maps as Baljash). Walk along this track past a new house on the left and then the track becomes a tarmac-ed road. The stables are just visible to the right through the fence.\n\n\n\nWalk straight over the next two crossroads (first with Lago Yojoa and then with Lago Saimaa) and into Calle de Lago Eire. This road very quickly becomes a narrow dirt path (ignore the track to the left) and runs along the back of the Jávea Golf Club.\n\n\n\nLook for a ruined finca on your left\, very close to the path. About 10m after the finca\, on your right\, is a narrow dirt path leading across the fields. Follow this path in an almost straight line for about 250m. The path then curves to the left through some trees and then out in the open.\n\n\n\nIt goes along a terrace and then junctions with another path\, where you should go up the slope then follow the path as it curves to the left into some more trees. Proceed the ends of the two walls. It emerges into a clearing under some electricity pylons. Go straight across the clearing towards a small wall. There is a path to the left but you should take the path to the right\, up a slight slope and left around some small trees. This path runs alongside some trees to your right.\n\n\n\nWhen you reach a junction with another path\, turn left and soon you will reach Cami de Sabatera. Turn right and carefully walk the short distance up the hill.\n\n\n\nAt the top of the hill\, go straight across and into Lago Como. This rough track quickly becomes a road as it descends steeply. Go down the hill ignoring the side turnings. Notice the abundance of traffic furniture and zebras grazing on every corner!\n\n\n\nTake the last turning on the left (still Lago Como) then turn right to return to the parking area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterested ? SUMMARY:Wine Group Trip to Bodegas Castaño in Yecla
DESCRIPTION:Bodegas Castaño is located in Yecla\, a small town in the north of the province of Murcia.  The Castaño family has always been considered a pioneer in the area\, experimenting with the grape variety Monastrell to both create straight wines and blend it with other varieties\, introducing the latest technology\, not only in the vineyard but also in the winery and implementing new quality systems that allow a more suitable winemaking.  The bodega owns nearly 600 hectares of vineyards in different estates spread in D.O. Yecla.  We will leave Moraira at approximately 8:30 a.m. and will arrive in Yecla at about 10:30.  We will stop for a coffee/breakfast break (not included) for approximately 45 minutes and then take a short drive to the bodega in time to meet our host\, Raquel\, at 11:30. We will then have a tour of the winery\, the whole winemaking area\, the barrel cellar and the bottle sanctuary. This will then be followed by a wine tasting of 3 wines in the old winery. \n\n\n\nThe visit ends in the private lounge of Bodegas Castaño with a 3-course menu prepared by the chef and paired with another 4 wines\, so in total you will have the opportunity of tasting 7 different wines.  There will be a selection of 3 starters for sharing around the table and the main course will be a homemade chicken paella\, followed by seasonal fruit and cheese flan.   After lunch\, you will have time to visit the shop\, where you will have the opportunity to purchase the wines of your choice.  We will depart at approximately 16:30 for our 2-hour journey home.  We will stop for a short comfort break en route if necessary.Based on the assumption that we will have 40 bookings\, the approximate cost will be 60€ per person. We have done our very best to negotiate the price. In addition\, the bodega has kindly offered our group a 20% discount on all wine purchases made on the day.We are not taking payments at the moment\, but if you would like to make a booking for this trip\, please email us wine.tasting@u3amoraira-teulada.org   If you would like to learn more about Bodegas Castaño and their wines\, please have a look at their website. https://www.bodegascastano.com/en/ \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf you would like to become a member of the Wine Tasting group and join us on this trip\, please contact Pat & Brian on the email below.
