SUMMARY:JESUS POBRE – Around the 3 Windmills - Thur
DESCRIPTION:Walk Leaders: Alex & Elaine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking RouteDistance : 4\,5 kmThis is a circular route around three windmills taking in the countryside near Jesus Pobre with splendid views.TerrainWalking SurfaceAll country tarmac or concrete roads. Shortcut: dirt and rock path\, level.AscentSlight.Directions to Meeting PointFrom Moraira:Drive to Javea all the way to the Ferrobox roundabout on the CV734. Turn left there towards Gata; From Javea:Leave Jávea on the CV734 towards Gata; Turn right at the second roundabout onto the CV738 towards Jesús Pobre. All:Turn right at the FOURTH roundabout onto the CV738 towards Jesus Pobre. In Jesus Pobre go past the pharmacy (on your left) and immediately after the pedestrian crossing turn left into Carrer Pare Pere. Continue up this narrow street\, passing the square (on your left) and take the next left into Carrer Ametllers. AT THE END OF THE STREET AT THE STOP SIGN GO STRAIGHT AHEAD AND THEN IMMEDIATELY RIGHT INTO THE PARKING.walk#39\n\n\n\nWalk Description\n\n\n\nAt the time of writing this guide\, road names are a scarce commodity in Jesús Pobre. The names used in the description below are the same as those used on the accompanying map. It is anybody’s guess what the real names are!!!!!!! \n\n\n\n\nAfter parking walk to the right of the apartment buildings and past the Riu Rau market building on the right\, cross the road and walk diagonally left up the hill.\n\n\n\nYou will reach a plaza\, Placa del Poble. Go to the end and turn left into Carrer Major.\n\n\n\nWalk up Carrer Major. Further on there is an old well on the right. The road continues and leaves the town and heads downhill in the campo.\n\n\n\nAs it leaves the town the road changes its name to Cami Bisserot. There seem to be a number of roads in this area with this name! As you leave the town\, ignore the road on the right called Bisserot!!!\n\n\n\nGo down the first part of the hill and soon you will see a white house on the left\, very close to the road. You have a choice here.Choice 1: Stay on the main road\n\n\n\nGo past the white house staying on the main road.\n\n\n\nYou will quickly come to a junction with a blue house with fish painted on it.\n\n\n\nTurn left here and follow the road down a steep hill. You will pass some nice old houses on the right.\n\n\n\nHalfway down there is a turning off to the right\, ignore this and stay on the main road. Both routes arrive at a T-junction where you will see the railway line 50m in front of you. The road you are joining (Cami Real) runs parallel with the railway line. Turn left at this T-junction..Choice 2: Divert through the country lanes\n\n\n\n(Dotted route on map). Immediately before the white house\, there is a concrete path to the left going down a very steep hill.\n\n\n\nFollow this to the bottom where the path turns right into a quiet country lane. [This route may be wet after rain.]Choices 1 & 2\n\n\n\nBoth routes arrive at a T-junction where you will see the railway line 50m in front of you. The road you are joining (Cami Real) runs parallel with the railway line. Turn left at this T-junction.\n\n\n\nWith the railway line on your right\, follow the road until you see the pigeon farm on your left and a bridge over the railway on your right.\n\n\n\nDo not cross the bridge but go left up the rocky track\, passing the pigeon farm on your left.\n\n\n\nThe lane bends slightly to the right and then\, when it turns sharp left take the roughly concreted track uphill and NOT the farm track straight on\, After about 25 metres take the narrow path straight ahead. There are whitepainted arrows on rocks to follow. [Do not follow the rough road as it continues uphill and left at this stage]\n\n\n\nThe path is narrow with a dirt and occasional rock surface. It meanders along with views of the house on the hillto the left and views to the right. Ignore any narrower paths to the right and left.\n\n\n\nThe path dog-legs right and left (ignore the concrete path to the right) and continues until it reaches a tarmac road. Turn right here.\n\n\n\nYou will pass a road joining from the right\, continue straight on\, then the road bends to the left\n\n\n\nFollow your road until you reach the junction at the cemetery.\n\n\n\nTurn left down Cami del Cementeri with the Cementeri to your right.\n\n\n\nAfter passing a house with an impressive gate the road turns sharp left (looks a bit like a T-junction). Notice that you are following the cycle route. It then bends around to the right.\n\n\n\nCarry on up a slight incline until you reach another sort of T-junction. Turn left (continuing to following the cycle route) around a quaint old summer house(?) which forms the corner building.\n\n\n\nAlmost immediately the road then turns right. You will see a “Quatre Canons” sign high up on the brick wall as you turn right.\n\n\n\nThe road passes three/four houses and then turns right yet again. Notice the “blue steps” on your left as you round the bend. You are on Carrer Del Baix (no signs to that effect?)\n\n\n\nFollow the road past some more houses on both sides and then the road turns left and then left again before turning right.\n\n\n\nThe road passes a new house on the left and approaches some new houses\apartments (on the right). Just before the apartments\, turn right into Carrer Pinaret (former carrer Dalt).\n\n\n\nCarrer Pinaret is a long straight road leading back to your car

SUMMARY:River cruise - Douro Queen
DESCRIPTION:U3A Trip Leaders: Carole and Paul Clark \n\n\n\nThis is a fantastic river cruise for our discerning members which we know will have something special for everyone.I am delighted to be able to offer you through the Cruise Market a stunning holiday on the Douro Queen\, sailing from Porto and back to Porto over an exciting week of discovery\, departing on 15 April 2027. \n\n\n\nAfter flying from Alicante to Porto we set sail on a journey that feels less like a holiday and more like stepping into a living postcard. From the moment you board the Douro Queen in Porto\, the pace shifts to something richer and more immersive. The river carries you through a landscape sculpted by centuries of winemaking\, where terraced vineyards climb steep hills and golden light reflects off the water as you glide past quiet villages and historic estates. Days are filled with discovery\, whether wandering through the atmospheric streets of Porto\, tasting world-famous port in traditional cellars\, or standing in awe of grand palaces and ancient castles that tell the story of Portugal’s past. \n\n\n\nEach stop adds a new layer of experience. In Pinhão\, azulejo-tiled stations and vineyard lunches bring local culture to life. In Régua and beyond\, the scenery becomes even more dramatic\, with the river cutting deep through the valley. There is the chance to cross into Spain and explore Salamanca’s glowing sandstone architecture\, or to climb through the historic lanes of Castelo Rodrigo\, where different cultures once lived side by side. Back on board\, the experience never slows down\, with panoramic views from the sun deck\, refreshing dips in the pool\, and evenings of fine dining paired with regional wines\, culture\, scenery\, and atmosphere that blends relaxation with genuine exploration. \n\n\n\nThe Douro Queen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Douro Queen guarantees the best views. Relax on the sun deck and enjoy the magnificent landscape of the Portuguese Douro Valley with its wine terraces. The pool on deck invites you to take a refreshing dip in between. We also place great emphasis on comfort on board. The stylishly furnished cabins on the upper deck have a private balcony with seating. In the cozy restaurant\, you can enjoy excellent local and international cuisine as well as the fine wines of this world-famous wine region. \n\n\n\nPORTO \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay 1 we fly from Alicante to Porto and join our river boat in the late afternoon. \n\n\n\nOn Day 2 we shall have an excursion to the “Cradle of the Nation of Portugal” Guimarães …… a City tour/drive through Porto with a tasting in a wine cellar \n\n\n\nOn Day 3 One of the highlights – an excursion to Pinhão\, including lunch at a traditional quinta – is also included in the tour price.Colourful towns\, picturesque villages and spectacular landscapes create a varied journey through sunny Portugal. Also on day 3 Excursion to the Mateus Palace in Vila Realis included\, with its park-like garden. Between the 15th and 17th centuries\, numerous members of the nobility settled in Vila Real. The main attraction of the town is Mateus Palace\, the mansion of the last count of Vila Real. The baroque building is located in a landscaped park with carefully trimmed hedges and ancient trees. The gardens are among the most beautiful in Europe\, and a guided tour of the palace is included. \n\n\n\nDay 4 Excursion to Castelo Rodrigo is included\, with its historic castle ruins.Castelo Rodrigo is one of the 12 historic parishes of Portugal\, situated about 670 meters above sea level. For centuries\, Jews\, Arabs and Christians lived here together. Known as the “white town” because of its almond trees\, it features castle and palace ruins\, cobbled streets\, and 16th century facades with distinctive Manueline-style window details. \n\n\n\nDay 5 a possible trip to the Spanish university city of Salamanca. (Book this trip at an extra cost 89 euros pp) \n\n\n\nAll buildings in the City Centre are built from golden stone\, giving Salamanca its unique appearance. The tour includes the oldest university in Spain\, the Plaza Mayor\, once used for bullfights\, and the Casa de las Conchas. You will also visit the 16th century Gothic New Cathedral and the 12th century Old Cathedral. Lunch is included. \n\n\n\nDay 6 Excursion to the pilgrimage town of Lamego.Lamego developed during the Portuguese Baroque period.
