Final Wine Tasting of the Season – June 2017

There was a wonderful climax to end the season of the  U3A Moraira Teulada wine tasting group on Thursday 8 June, when 78 members gathered at Satari’s Restaurant in Moraira for a ‘Pairings Evening’.

6  Wines from  Bodegas Leopoldo in Ondara were selected for us to sample, and Abi Satari in his usual innovative style created 6 tapa style tastings to complement each wine.

Steve from Bodegas Leopoldo gave us interesting information about each wine as we paired the wine with the delicious tapa.

A melon soup with Serrano ham, crushed ice and fresh mint paired superbly with the Dársena Rueda. This wine was a young 50:50 Verdejo-Viura grape, and very popular with the guests. The crispy duck, leek and cucumber pancake together with the ‘oh so smooth’ MS Syrah was a match made in heaven!

At the end of the evening the guests were able to buy those wines which they particularly enjoyed, so everyone went home happy.

Jan Adams gave a vote of thanks to all those who enabled all of us to have such an enjoyable evening.

Brian and Pat Clarke have run the wine tasting group for a year, and they have worked tirelessly to find bodegas to come to the meetings every month for the members of the wine tasting group to try their wines.

Domingo Megia from Corcovo in Valdepenas makes a round trip of 850 kms to bring his wines to the group twice a year, and closer to home, more locally, Daniel Fullana Font, the Sales Manager of Bodegas Xaló in Jalon, along with his wife Celia, presented some excellent wines for their first time last month.

The very popular wine tasting group has a membership of 330.  Members find that being able ‘to try before you buy‘, and in convivial company, is a very pleasant way to spend an evening.

The new season starts in September.  If you wish to join the Wine Group, please email Brian and Pat  wine.tasting@u3amoraira-teulada.org
