General Meeting 7th Dec 2015 Minutes

University of the Third Age Moraira-Teulada

Minutes of the Meeting held on 7th December 2015

At the Salon de Banquettes, Teulada

It is confirmed that the President and the Deputy Secretary attended this Monthly Meeting as voted in at the AGM on 1st December 2014.

Jill Cole welcomed everybody to this December Meeting. Jill explained the emergency procedures and said that the lift should not be used in the case of evacuation. It was requested that mobile phones were either turned off or put on silent. Jill thanked the U3A Band for coming in early to set up and play as members arrived.  Jill asked if everyone had collected their raffle ticket.

David Haxon read out the synopsis of the Minutes from the 2nd November Meeting. The full minutes had been posted on the Website and were proposed by Shirley Tuckey and seconded by Colin McNae. The minutes were approved by the members with a show of hands.

There were no matters arising from the minutes.

President’s Address.

Jill said that she had been to see the Drama Group’s panto Alice in Wonderland and said how much she had enjoyed it, and that the costumes were superb. She congratulated not only the actors but also the support they get from background people and the costume maker.

Another vote of thanks went to Carol Mantle and Ann Cattle for organising the trip to Barcelona. Jill said she had enjoyed it immensely as had the 52 other members, and that she hoped the Travel Group would arrange anther trip there next year.

Jill said that she had received a request from the Treasurer that wherever possible the members should bring the correct money when renewing their membership for 2016.

Lastly Jill thanked everybody on the Committee, the Group Leaders and the helpers for everything that they had done throughout 2015, to make our U3A so successful.

Jill hoped everyone would have a happy, healthy and festive Christmas wherever they were going to spend it and looked forward to seeing everyone in 2016.

There was no report from Brian Nicholls the Members/Committee Liaison Officer.

As there was no other business, Jill introduced two members from the Creative Writing Group, who had written items appropriate for this time of year. Chris King read out two amusing poems that he had penned, and he was followed by Rosemary Sheppard who had written a short, up to date story about the original Christmas. Both were well received and were given a round of applause from the appreciative members.

This was followed by a short play from the members of the Drama Group, who had written it themselves. This was funny and enjoyed by the many members who had stayed after the business part of the meeting. Again they were given a round of applause for their efforts.

The raffle was drawn and was won by Margaret Staines and was for a €50 voucher for Pepe La Sal. As this was the Christmas Meeting two smaller prizes of €25 were presented to Raymond Atkins and Norman Benn.

Once again Jill thanked all the Groups who had performed for the members and said that the U3A Band would play  a few more numbers before everyone headed for home.

There was no further business and the meeting closed at around 11.45 a.m.

The next Monthly Meeting will be on 4th January 2016.
