A Perfect Pairing of Fine Wines & Good Company

The latest U3A wine tasting event at Hilltop Bar & Restaurant in Moraira was a delightful evening, bringing together 53 wine lovers to explore an exciting selection from Bodegas Bleda in Jumilla. Hosted by the knowledgeable Marta, assisted by her colleague Juan Fran, the tasting featured a range of exquisite wines, expertly presented with insights into their characteristics, production, and ideal pairings.

We began with the new 2024 vintages, all organic, of Airén & Sauvignon Blanc white, a crisp and refreshing blend, alongside the 100% Sauvignon Blanc, which stood out for its good acidity and tropical fruit notes. The 100% Monastrell Rosado, also organic, was another highlight — boasting a beautiful salmon pink color, delicate red berry flavors, and a refreshing finish, making it a perfect choice for the warmer months ahead.

For the reds, the 2023 vintage 100% Monastrell offered rich, ripe fruit flavors and smooth tannins — an incredible bargain at a special offer of 12 bottles for just 49,50€. However, the real star of the evening was the Pino Doncel Black, a bold and structured blend of Monastrell, Syrah, and Petit Verdot, which emerged as the best seller of the night. Its depth, complexity, and fantastic value at 6 bottles for 30€ made it an irresistible choice for many attendees.

To complement the wines, platters of cold meats and cheeses were provided by the restaurant for sharing, adding a delicious touch to the evening and allowed guests to fully appreciate the wines in a relaxed and convivial setting.
