Travel Group – Message from President

The Committee has become aware that some members who have used the Travel group in the last few years have received an e-mail from the former Travel group leader. The Committee was not asked, nor would have  agreed to members’ e-mail addresses being used by any external companies or individuals for non U3A supported activities or interests. The Committee has requested that Carol Mantle and Norman Peterken delete all U3A information (including members’ personal information) from their own computers and other electronic devices as well as any hard copy documents in their possession.

If you have received an e-mail from the former Travel group leader, Carol Mantle, and her former Deputy, Norman Peterken, and you do not wish to receive e-mails or information from them, you should reply to their e-mail saying you do not wish your personal information or e-mail address to be held by them.

We are aware that some members who received Carol’s email are under the impression that our U3A does not have a Travel group any more.  This is not true. The Moraira-Teulada U3A has a new team running our Travel Group under the leadership of Lynn Clark. In addition, Anne Cattle has remained with the group, and Sue Popkin has rejoined it. They have been joined by some other very enthusiastic volunteers. A number of trips have already been run very successfully by them, and there are many more trips planned.

Monthly accounts are now being published for the Travel Group, in order to ensure complete transparency for the way we handle our members’ money.  This is something that the former Travel Group leader Carol Mantle said was impossible or far too much work to do even though she was offered help to do it. The ‘impossible’ was achieved within a month of her leaving.

We look forward to your continued support for our U3A Travel group. Please see the details of some of the future trips on our website.

David Haxon. President
